Carlo Mollino
Carlo Mollino (1905-1973) began his career in his home city of Turin, Italy, when Modernism was at its international height. A modern Renaissance man, Mollino took inspiration from and contributed to various disparate fields, including aeronautics, automobile design, art, photography, set design, town planning, furniture, interior decoration and architecture. He was also an avid aviator, lecturer, and ski instructor. His many influences, as well as his dedication to complex construction techniques, materials and technology, can be felt in the unusual dynamism of his work. Mollino is credited as saying “anything is permissible as long as it is fantastic”. This credo is certainly reflected in his work.
