Simone Crestani

Simone Crestani

Simone Crestani (b. 1984) was becoming a medium for the expressions of glass before he had any intention of dedicating his life to the craft. At the age of fifteen, Crestani began apprenticing under Massimo Lunardon, a glass master also from the town of Marostica, near Venice. After ten years, Crestani opened his own atelier in 2010, and is now regarded as a master in his own right, regularly invited as a visiting artist and instructor to prestigious institutions worldwide. He is recognized for his developments in the flameworking technique he calls “hollow sculpture” for borosilicate glass, which permits a mesmerizing level of detail. Crestani has come to see the process of shaping glass as allowing the glass to grow into its own identity, coaxing it to equilibrium. Through scale and material, Crestani transmutes natural forms into objects of delicacy and contemplation.
